Development of consumer prices in May 2010

In May compared with April, consumer prices increased in total by 0,1 %. Prices increased in the divisions: transport by 0,3 %, food and non-alcoholic beverages by 0,2 %, alcoholic beverages and tobacco by 0,2 %, miscellaneous goods and services by 0,2 %, clothing and footwear by 0,1 %, health by 0,1 %. Prices of furnishings, household equipment and routine household maintenance decreased by 0,5 %. Prices were at the level of April in the divisions: housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels, postal and telecommunication services; recreation and culture, education, hotels, cafés and restaurants.

Higher prices in food by 0,2 % were affected by a growth in prices of fruit by 4 %, oils and fats by 0,5 % and meat by 0,1 %. Prices of vegetables (including potatoes) decreased by 0,8 %, sugar, jam, honey, syrups, chocolates and confectionary by 0,7 %, bread by 0,3 %, cereals by 0,3 %, milk, cheese and eggs by 0,3 %, fishes by 0,2 %. Prices of non-alcoholic beverages increased by 0,6 % (coffee, tea and cocoa by 1,1 %, mineral water, soft drinks, fruit and vegetable juices by 0,3 %).

Increased prices of vegetables were affected by higher prices of red watermelons by 54,1 %, apples by 6,4 %, lemons by 5,6 %, tangerines by 5,5 %, oranges by 4,5 %, kiwi by 3,4 % and bananas by 2,2 %. Prices of table grapes decreased by 10,5 %. Prices of vegetables decreased as a result of a fall in prices of salad cucumbers by 16,4 %, tangerines by 14,3 %, pepper by 13,8 % and cauliflower by 4,9 %. Prices of potatoes increased by 11,2 %, carrot by 10,8 %, parsley by 9,1 %, white cabbage by 4,7 %, onion by 4,1 % and garlic by 2,1 %. Prices of meat increased as a result of growing prices of sausages by 0,6 %. Prices of beef meat decreased by 0,5 %, poultry by 0,3 % and pork meat by 0,1 %.

A rise in prices of the division of alcoholic beverages and tobacco was affected by higher prices of alcoholic beverages by 0,4 % (prices of spirits increased by 1,2 %, beer by 0,1 % and prices of wine decreased by 0,4 %). Prices of tobacco did not change.

Higher prices of clothing and footwear were affected by an increase in prices of footwear by 0,2 % and clothing by 0,1 %.

In the division of housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels, prices of water supply, waste disposal, wastewater, other services relating to the dwelling, electricity, gas, heat energy did not change. Prices of actual rentals paid by tenants increased by 0,6 %, solid fuels by 0,2 %, imputed rentals of owner-occupiers by 0,1 %. Prices of materials for regular maintenance and repair of the dwelling decreased by 0,2 % and services for regular maintenance and repair of the dwelling by 0,1 %.

Decreased prices in furnishings, household equipment and routine household maintenance was affected by lower prices of goods and services for routine maintenance of household by 1,2 %, household textile by 0,4 %, furnishings, carpets and other floor covering by 0,3 % and household appliances by 0,2 %. Prices of tools and equipment for house and garden increased by 0,1 %. Prices of glassware, tableware furniture and household utensils did not change.

Price index in health increased under the influence of increased prices of medical and pharmaceutical products, therapeutic appliances and equipment by 0,1 % (prices of pharmaceutical preparations and products increased by 0,2 %, prices of other medical products decreased by 0,2 % prices of therapeutic appliances and equipment were unchanged) and outpatient services by 0,1 % (dental services by 0,2 %, medical services by 0,1 %, prices of other outpatient services did not change). Prices of hospital services were at the last year´s level.

Higher prices in transport were affected by an increase in prices of operation of personal transport equipment by 1,3 % (prices of fuels and lubricants increased by 2,1 %, prices of spare parts and accessories decreased by 0,3 %, prices of maintenance and repair did not change). Prices of purchase of transport equipment decreased by 1,2 % (second-hand cars by 1,4 %, new motor vehicles by 1,3 %) and transport services by 0,4 % (prices of air passenger transport decreased by 20,3 %, prices of other transport service activities increased by 1 %, prices of road passenger transport did not change).

In the division of communications, prices of postal services and telephone services did not change. Prices of telephone equipment decreased by 0,9 %.

In the division of recreation and culture, prices ofother recreational items and equipments, gardens and pets did not change. Prices of recreational and cultural services increased by 0,5 %, newspaper, books and stationery by 0,1 %. Prices of package holidays decreased by 0,5 %, audio-visual and photographic technology by 0,4 %, other major durables for recreation by 0,4 %.

In education, prices of secondary, tertiary education and education not definable by the level did not change. Prices of pre-primary and primary education increased by 0,2 % (fee for children school club increased by 0,3 % and fee in kindergarten by 0,1 %).

In the division of hotels, cafés and restaurants, prices of accommodation services were at the level of April. Prices of catering increased by 0,1 % (in restaurants and cafés by 0,1 %, prices in canteens did not change).

Increased prices in the division of miscellaneous goods and services were affected by higher prices of financial services n.e.c by 3,2 % (payment for keeping account ? service package by 5,3 %, payment for withdrawing cash from other ATM by 2,5 %), personal effects n.e.c. by 0,4 % and other service activities n.e.c. by 0,2 %. Prices of insurance decreased by 0,3 % (accident automobile insurance by 1,7 %, compulsory automobile insurance by 0,2 %) and personal care by 0,1 %. Prices of social service activities did not change.

Consumer prices increased in total by 1,2 % in May 2010 compared with May 2009. Prices increased in the divisions: alcoholic beverages and tobacco by 6,7 %, education by 4,6 %, health by 4,1 %, miscellaneous goods and services by 2 %, postal and telecommunication services by 1,6 %, transport by 1,2 %, housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels by 1,1 %, hotels, cafés and restaurants by 1 %, recreation and culture by 0,7 %, food an non-alcoholic beverages by 0,4 %. Prices of furnishings, household equipments and routine household maintenance decreased by 3,9 %, clothing and footwear by 1,7 %.

Over the first five months
, consumer prices increased, on average, by 0,8 %, in total, compared with the corresponding period in 2009.

Index of consumer prices increased in households of employees by 0,1 % and in households of pensioners did not change in May compared with April.

Index of consumer prices increased in households of employees by 1,3 % and in households of pensioners by 1,2 %, year-on-year, in May.

Over the first five months, index of consumer prices grew in households of employees by 0,9 % and in households of pensioners by 0,7 %, compared with the corresponding period in 2009.
