Development of consumer prices in April 2010

In April compared with March, consumer prices increased in total by 0,4 %. Prices increased in the divisions: food and non-alcoholic beverages by 1,1 %, transport by 0,9 %, alcoholic beverages and tobacco by 0,6 %, clothing and footwear by 0,3 %, miscellaneous goods and services by 0,2 %, housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels by 0,1 %, health by 0,1 %, recreation and culture by 0,1 %. Prices of furnishings, household equipment and routine household maintenance decreased by 0,1 %. Prices were at the level of the previous month in the divisions: postal and telecommunication services; education; hotels, cafés and restaurants.

Higher prices in food by 1,2 % were affected by a growth in prices of vegetables (including potatoes) by 7,6 %, fruit by 3,8 %, oils and fats by 0,9 %, milk, cheese and eggs by 0,5 %, fishes by 0,3 %, sugar, jam, honey, syrups, chocolates and confectionary by 0,2 %. Prices of bread and cereals decreased by 0,4 %, meat by 0,4 %. Prices of non-alcoholic beverages increased by 0,4 % (prices of coffee, tea and cocoa increased by 1,3 %, prices of mineral water, soft drinks, fruit and vegetable juices decreased by 0,1 %).

Increased prices of vegetables were affected by higher prices of onion by 23,9 %, potatoes by 22,6 %, parsley by 18,9 %, celery by 17,5 %, carrot by 15,3 %, tomatoes by 10,4 %, pepper by 9,4 %, white cabbage by 9,3 % and garlic by 1,9 %. Prices of salad cucumbers decreased by 16,1 %, cauliflower by 8,9 %. A price increase of fruit was affected by increased prices of table grapes by 21,3 %, kiwi by 7,2 %, oranges by 3,4 %, apples by 1,8 %, bananas by 1,6 %, lemons by 1,4 % and tangerines by 1 %. A price cut of meat was affected by lower prices of pork meat by 0,8 %, sausages by 0,4 %, poultry by 0,3 %. Prices of beef meat increased by 0,3 %.

A rise in prices of the division of alcoholic beverages and tobacco was affected by higher prices of alcoholic beverages by 1,1 % (spirits by 2,1 %, beer by 0,7 % and wine by 0,6 %). Prices of tobacco were at the level of March.

Higher prices of clothing and footwear were affected by an increase of prices of footwear by 0,3 % and also clothing by 0,3 %.

A rise in prices of the division of housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels was affected by higher prices of wastewater by 2,2 %, imputed rentals of owner-occupiers by 0,3 %, services for regular maintenance and repair of the dwelling by 0,1 %, solid fuels by 0,1 %. Prices of materials for regular maintenance and repair of the dwelling decreased by 0,2 % and heat energy by 0,1 %. Prices of actual rentals paid by tenants, water supply, waste disposal, other services relating to the dwelling, electricity and gas were at the level of the previous month.

Decreased prices in furnishings, household equipment and routine household maintenance was affected by lower prices of household textile by 0,5 %, household appliances by 0,3 %, furnishings, carpets and other floor covering by 0,1 %, goods and services for routine maintenance of household by 0,1 %. Prices of tools and equipment for house and garden increased by 0,6 %, glassware, tableware furniture and household utensils by 0,5 %.

Price index in health increased under the influence of increased prices of outpatient services by 0,4 % (dental services by 1,1 %, medical services by 0,2 %, prices of other outpatient services did not change). Prices of medical and pharmaceutical products, therapeutic appliances and equipment decreased by 0,1 % (prices of other medical products decreased by 1,1 %, prices of pharmaceutical preparations and products increased by 0,2 %, prices of therapeutic appliances and equipment were unchanged). Prices of hospital services were at the level of March.

Higher prices in transport were affected by an increase in prices of operation of personal transport equipment by 2,1 % (prices of fuels and lubricants increased by 3,5 %, prices of spare parts and accessories decreased by 0,8 %, maintenance and repair by 0,3 %) and transport services by 0,5 % (prices of air passenger transport increased by 25,3 % and other transport service activities by 0,1 %, prices of road passenger transport did not change). Prices of purchase of transport equipment decreased by 1,4 % (new motor vehicles by 3,1 %).

In the division of communications, prices of postal services and telephone services did not change. Prices of telephone equipment decreased by 1 %.

Increased prices of recreation and culture were affected by higher prices of recreational and cultural services by 0,8 %, other recreational items and equipments, gardens and pets by 0,2 %, newspaper, books and stationery by 0,2 %. Prices of other major durables for recreation decreased by 1,5 %, package holidays by 0,6 %, audio-visual and photographic technology by 0,3 %.

In education, prices of pre-primary, primary, secondary, tertiary education and education not definable by the level (a fee for language course increased by 0,1 %) did not change.

In the division of hotels, cafés and restaurants, prices of catering (prices in canteens decreased by 0,2 %, prices in restaurants and cafés increased by 0,1 %) were unchanged. Prices of accommodation services decreased by 0,3 %.

Increased prices of miscellaneous goods and services were affected by higher prices of social services by 0,5 % (payment in facilities for pensioners by 0,6 %, payment for meals in canteens for pensioners by 0,7 %), personal care by 0,3 %, financial services n.e.c. by 0,3 % (payment for withdrawing cash from other ATM by 2,6 %), personal effects n.e.c. by 0,1 %. Prices of insurance decreased by 0,1 % (prices of accident automobile insurance decreased by 1,8 %, prices of compulsory automobile insurance increased by 0,3 %) and other service activities n.e.c. by 0,1 %.

Consumer prices increased in total by 1,3 % in April, compared with April 2009. Prices increased in the divisions: alcoholic beverages and tobacco by 7,2 %, education by 4,6 %, health by 4,3 %, miscellaneous goods and services by 1,9 %, postal and telecommunication services by 1,5 %, transport by 1,2 %, housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels by 1,1 %, hotels, cafés and restaurants by 1,1 %, recreation and culture by 0,8 %, food an non-alcoholic beverages by 0,6 %. Prices of furnishings, household equipments and routine household maintenance decreased by 4 %, clothing and footwear by 2 %.

Over the first four months
, consumer prices increased, on average, by 0,7 %, in total, compared with the corresponding period in 2009.

Index of consumer prices increased in households of employees by 0,4 % and in households of pensioners by 0,4 % too in April compared with March.

Index of consumer prices increased in households of employees by 1,3 % and in households of pensioners by 1,3 %, year-on-year, in April.

Over the first four months, index of consumer prices grew in households of employees by 0,8 % and in households of pensioners by 0,6 %, compared with the corresponding period in 2009.
