In February, the total export of goods increased by 17,1 % to EUR 3 401 million and the total import grew by 16,1 % to EUR 3 347,4 million, compared with the corresponding period last year.
The foreign trade balance was in surplus of EUR 53,6 million (by EUR 33,5 million higher than in February 2009).
The foreign trade balance was in surplus of EUR 125,3 million in the January-February period.
The Slovak Republic had the highest balance surplus with Poland (EUR 239,3 million), France (EUR 232,1 million), Austria (EUR 225,1 million), Italy (EUR 200,1 million), Germany (EUR 129,4 million), the Czech Republic (EUR 121,4 million), United Kingdom (EUR 116,7 million), the Netherlands (EUR 103,5 million), Spain (EUR 100,1 million) and Turkey (EUR 96,5 million).
The biggest balance deficit was in foreign-trade activity with the Russian Federation (EUR 617,1 million), the Republic of Korea (EUR 416,5 million), China (EUR 155,6 million), Taiwan (EUR 95,3 million), Japan (EUR 85,7 million), Malaysia (EUR 33,5 million) and Ukraine (EUR 22,5 million).
Goods in the amount of EUR 6 492,7 million were exported from the Slovak Republic. Compared with the corresponding period last year, the total export increased by 15,6 %.
In terms of goods, export of motor cars and other motor vehicles principally designed for transport of persons increased more considerably by EUR 426 million, parts and accessories of motor vehicles by EUR 84,4 million, parts of transmitting equipment for radio broadcasting and television by EUR 52,5 million, flat-rolled products of iron or non-alloy steel, hot-rolled by EUR 47,7 million and new pneumatic tyres, of rubber by EUR 42,8 million.
Export of television equipment decreased most by EUR 108,8 million, bodies (coachwork) for motor vehicles by EUR 38,8 million, structures and parts of structures, of iron or steel by EUR 12,5 million and semi products of iron and non-alloy steel by EUR 8,9 million.
From the most significant trade partners, export increased to Germany by 4,8 %, the Czech Republic by 19,2 %, France by 11,3 %, Poland by 31,1 %, Italy by 11,6 %, Austria by 31 %, Hungary by 2,2 % and Spain by 38,7 %. Export decreased to United Kingdom by 1,5 %, the Russian Federation by 4,1 % and the Netherlands by 8,7 %.
The export to the EU countries increased by 12,4 % (it represented 84,9 % of the total export of the SR) and export to the OECD countries was up by 14,9 % (it represented 87,2 % of the total export of the SR) in terms of the main economic groupings.
Goods in the amount of EUR 6 367,3 million were imported to the Slovak Republic; there was a 8,3 % year-on-year increase.
In terms of goods, import of parts and accessories of motor vehicles increased most by EUR 195,6 million, petroleum oils and oils from crude bitumen mineral by EUR 145,3 million, petroleum gases and other gaseous hydrocarbons by EUR 47,9 million, combustion piston engines by EUR 42,6 million and products with liquid crystals by EUR 40,2 million.
Import of medicaments decreased most by EUR 31 million, parts of transmitting equipment for radio broadcasting and television by EUR 29,4 million, television equipment by EUR 27 million, bituminous coal and similar solid fuels manufactured from coal by EUR 21,8 million.
In relation to the most significant trade partners, import increased from Germany by 21,6 %, the Russian Federation by 42 %, the Czech Republic by 9,1 %, the Republic of Korea by 25,7 %, France by 16,6 % and Poland by 15 %. Import decreased from China by 3 %, Hungary by 3,4 %, Italy by 10,1 %, Austria by 1,8 %, United Kingdom by 12,1 %.
Import from the EU countries was up by 3 % (it represented 65 % of the total import) and import from the OECD countries increased by 7,9 % (it represented 68,1 % of the total import of the SR) in terms of the main economic groupings.
