Construction production in December 2009

A fall of construction production went deep in December 2009. The realized volume of EUR 463,4 million was lower by 18,2 % compared with December 2008.

Construction production realized by domestic construction companies decreased by 17,4 %, year-on-year, to EUR 448,6 million. Its share of the whole construction production was up by 1 p.p. compared with December 2008 and it reached 96,8 %. The development of domestic production was affected mostly by a decrease of new construction, renewals and enhancements by 18,7 % to EUR 357,7 million. Construcion works on repair and maintenance decreased by 13,8 % to EUR 87,5 million. In the structure of domestic production, new construction represented 79,7 % (by 1,4 p.p. fewer than in corresponding period in 2008). Share of repairs and maintenance works was 19,5 % (year-on-year by 0,9 p.p. more). In terms of production specification, production realized on buildings was down more significantly (by 21,8 %), civil engineering works declined by 4,4 %. Construction of buildings represented 70,4 % of the domestic construction production, civil engineering works represented 28,8 %.

Non-domestic production realized by construction companies decreased significantly in December. The realized volume was EUR 14,8 million and it decreased by 37,6 % year-on-year. It represented 3,2 % of the total volume of construction production.

Construction production (after seasonal adjustment) was down by 11,3 % in December 2009 compared with November 2009.

In 2009
, construction production amounted to EUR 5 749,7 million, there was a year-on-year decrease by 11,3 %. Domestic production decreased by 11,1 % and amounted to EUR 5 527,6 million. The volume of new construction, renewals and enhancements declined by 10,9 % to EUR 4 539,4 million. Repair and maintenance works were down by 14,1 % and amounted to EUR 950,5 million. Non-domestic production decreased by 16,6 %. In the structure of domestic production, a share of new construction, renewals and enhancements increased by 0,2 p.p. to 82,1 %, a share of repairs and maintenance decreased by 0,6 p.p. to 17,2 %. In terms of production specification, the volume of realized production on buildings decreased considerably (compared with 2008 by 15,1 %), civil engineering works slightly exceeded the level of 2008 (by 0,9 %).
