Industrial production in November 2009

Industrial production index (IPI) increased by 1,5 % in November, compared with November 2008 and after thirteen months it reached a year-on-year increase. The development was affected by a rise in mining and quarrying by 6,8 %, in manufacturing by 2,6 % and by a fall in electricity, gas, steam and air-condition supply by 5,7 %.

Production of the following industrial sectors (that affected most a rise of the total production) increased most considerably: manufacture of transport equipment (by 16,2 %), manufacture of machinery and equipment n.e.c. (by 8,2 %), manufacture of electrical equipment (by 7,3 %), manufacture of metal and fabricated metal products except machinery and equipment (by 4,7 %), manufacture of food, beverages and tobacco products (by 3,8 %). Production as a whole was affected more considerably by a fall in other manufacture, repair and installation of machinery and equipment by 16,3 %, in manufacture of rubber and plastic products and other non-metallic mineral products by 15,8 %, in manufacture of wood and paper products, printing by 6,3 %, in electricity, gas, steam and air-condition supply by 5,7 %, in manufacture of computer, electronic and optical products by 2,2 %.

Compared with November 2008 and by the main industrial groupings, production of intermediate goods increased by 5,3 % and production of investment goods by 5,2 %. Production related to energy decreased by 4,2 %, production of durable consumer goods by 3,7 % and production of non-durable consumer goods by 0,2 %.

Industrial production (after seasonality adjustment) increased by 0,1 % in November compared with October.

Since the beginning of year,
IPI decreased by 15,8 % year-on-year, of which in manufacturing by 17,5 %, in electricity, gas, steam and air-condition supply by 7,9 %. Production increased in mining and quarrying by 1,1 %. Production of the following industrial sectors (that affected most a fall of the total production) decreased most considerably: manufacture of transport equipment by 30,8 %, machinery and equipment n.e.c. by 23,1 %, rubber and plastic products and other non-metallic mineral products by 22,9 %, metal and fabricated metal products except of machinery and equipment by 18,7 %, electricity, gas, steam and air-condition supply by 7,9 %. Production increased only in manufacture of computer, electronic and optical products by 4,2 %, in manufacture of coke and refined petroleum products by 1,6 %, in mining and quarrying by 1,1 %.

By the main industrial groupings, production of investment goods decreased by 28,3 %, production of intermediate goods by 15,5 %, production of non-durable consumer goods by 8,7 % and production related to energy by 5,1 %. Production of durable consumer goods increased by 0,1 %.

Note: preliminary results; construction production includes volume of works realized by own employees, including estimation of production for construction establishments of non-construction enterprises; absolute data are at current prices, indices are calculated from constant prices (average prices of 2005); in November the number of working days was higher by 1 day compared with November 2008 and compared with the corresponding period last year it was lower by 1 day since the beginning of year.
